Affiliate Marketing and Tracking - The Basics

1. Install affiliate marketing, tracking, and shopping cart software on your server or subscribe to an affiliate tracking service. AShop 2-tier affiliate marketing, tracking, and sales software includes affiliate link code and advertising banner tools to promote your store. Two levels of commissions can be set for each product by a percentage or dollar amount. The commission levels can be used to reward affiliates who perform above average.

2. Seek out affiliates and offer them an easy way to automatically generate income by placing a link to your affiliate program in their web site or newsletters. You can find affiliates by searching for and contacting relevant web sites directly, placing advertisements, or by submitting listings in affiliate sales directories. Provide a link to the affiliate sign-up page, which can include more information about your products and program.

3. New affiliates sign-up online and a password is automatically generated and e-mailed to them. HTML link code containing the affiliate ID is automatically generated by the software for affiliates to copy and paste into their web sites or newsletters. You can also provide images, banners and text ads, which can be used with the affiliate HTML link code. Link code is generated for the affiliates to sell your products and also to enlist new affiliates in order to receive second tier commissions.

4. Customers click on an affiliate link, an affiliate ID cookie is placed on their computer and the customer is redirected to a page of your choosing, such as a product ad page, your home page, or the shopping cart. When they make a purchase, sales stats and commissions are automatically recorded. If the customer leaves and returns at a later date, a cookie that is placed on the visitor's computer ensures that the affiliate will still earn a commission. Each time a sale is made, a notice is automatically e-mailed to the store administrator and referrer.

5. Affiliates can easily log in with a password to view sales and commission stats or to change their contact information.
